Virginia Dare Broyles

July 12, 1926 — October 11, 2024

Virginia Dare Jobe Broyles, 98, of Telford, entered into the gates of Heaven on October 11, 2024. "Short" as she was lovingly called, was born on July 12, 1926, to the late Jennie Ethel and Sam Jobe. She married Isaac Aven Broyles on November 19, 1942, and became a loving, nurturing, devoted wife, mother, Nana, and caregiver to her family.

Short was known for her diligence in farm work, maintaining her home inside and out, providing home-cooked meals three times a day, sewing clothes and quilts for her family, cooking for farm hands, driving her children to their events, and being a devoted caregiver to her mother, sister, husband, children, and granddaughter.

Descriptions of Short include loving, kind, quiet, frugal, hardworking, and classy. She was a prayer warrior for her family and friends, evident by the many prayers she had written and kept in her Bible and journals. Short's example taught us to love Jesus, put him first, and be like Jesus to others. She made our home beautiful, comfortable, and safe, and took pride in preparing the best meals for our family and friends. Through encouragement and prayer, Short taught us to work hard, do our best and never give up. Throughout her life, she continued to study God's Word while fervently praying for others. Her open Bible could always be found on the breakfast table. Short lived her life as a Proverbs 31 woman who feared the Lord believing that "charm is deceptive and beauty is fleeting, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." Short's Bible is filled with underlined verses of scripture and notes that helped her to be servant of God.

Proceeding Virginia in Death was her husband, I. Aven Broyles, son-in-law, Ed Sehlhorst, granddaughter, Madison Beard, brothers, Sherill Grabbs, Pete Grubbs and sister Ruth Edwards.

Those left to celebrate the life of Virginia Broyles are her son Eddie (Bobbie) Broyles, daughters Sandra Sehlhorst and Judi (Jimmy) Beard and several nieces and nephews. We are grateful for two special caregivers, Mary Johnson, a lifelong friend and Darlene Garland.

The Broyles family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 15 from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Harmony Baptist Church, Jonesborough . A Celebration of Life will follow at 7:00pm. with Pastor Steve Pate, Dr. David Quinn, and Pastor Robert Skeen officiating.
